Southcoast Computer Security
I have a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering but I am a computer programmer by trade. For the past ten years I have been part of a team of programmers that has developed a highly customized MIS system that provides sensitive data to its users. Over the decade I have watched various technologies rise and fall and with them I have seen firsthand dozens if not hundreds of attacks against us with increasing technical skill and persistence.
Our group was divided by function, some members were programmers, some were database gurus, and others were system/network administrators. Even though we were "attacked" almost daily, we did not have a formal position of an Information Security Officer. We had "the security guy" - Me.
I quickly saw that this was unacceptable. Security cannot be an afterthought, or an additional duty. In fact, the concept of "computer security" had to change. Gone were the days when just having a firewall was enough to protect you. It was clear that we needed to transition to formalized Information Assurance that permeates every aspect of an Information System. It was also clear that I needed more training in order to meet this challenge and last year I received a Masters Degree from Boston University in the field of Computer Security
Every week I read about intrusions, data thefts, and malicious malware. These breaches cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to remediate, tie up manpower and expose the organizations to lawsuits and loss of reputation. It takes planning, skills, and persistence to stand up to these threats but it is essential for your business that you do so!
Let's work together to implement and maintain your Information Assurance plan!
